Garth Lee
Garth began working with wood at an early age, always creating and inventing new things in the shop. Eventually, his love of both music and creating led him to the Newark School of Violin Making in England. After graduating with distinction and highest honours, he was invited to join a violin-making partnership. His time spent in the partnership provided excellent further training but eventually the pull to return home to Canada could not be ignored.
Garth opened his own studio in Winnipeg, Manitoba, making violins, violas, and cellos. He has several instruments in the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and musicians across Canada and as far
abroad as South Africa and New Zealand enjoy his craftsmanship.
He continues to participate in the world-renowned Oberlin College Violin Making workshops, where professionals work alongside each other sharing ideas and methods, and making advancements as a collective to produce some of the best contemporary instruments available.
