Alejandro Puig

Alejandro Puig has had a lifelong fascination with wood as a sculptural material since he was a boy. He studied Art and Art History at the University of New Mexico in the mid 1970’s. Alejandro opened his own furniture making studio in 1982, making furniture of his own design and doing work for studios in Santa Fe and New York.

After moving to Wisconsin in 1991, he began a formal 3 year apprenticeship with Daniel Hendricks, who had studied violin restoration with William Webster and John Becker at Bein and Fushi in Chicago. Daniel and Alejandro later became business partners, along with Lee Kupersmith, forming a violin repair and restoration co-operative they named Seraphin Strings. It was the beginning of a world class education which continues to this day as the three continue to collaborate and share techniques.

Since 2001, Alejandro has been working in his own workshop. He has received certificates of merit from VSA competitions in both workmanship and tone. He divides his time between making new instruments and doing long complex restorations for major workshops.

Alejandro Puig works and happily lives in rural Wisconsin on a small farm with his daughter, son in law, two granddaughters, a dog named Woody and 23 chickens.
