Guy Rabut

Guy Rabut was raised in a musical and artistic family where his father was an artist. Guy began to play the cello at the age of nine. His passion for music and his natural artistic talent led him to violin making which began at The Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he graduated in 1978. For the next five years Mr. Rabut worked for the prestigious firm of Jacques Français in New York City under master restorer René Morel. At the Français shop he had the privilege to work on many important Italian instruments played by the world’s top soloists.

In 1984, Mr. Rabut established his own shop in New York City, dividing his time between making and restoring instruments. With the opening of a workshop in Carnegie Hall in 1992, he began to focus exclusively on making new violins, violas, and cellos. Rabut instruments are based on classical models and acoustical concepts which have proved to be the foundation of the great Italian instruments. A Rabut instrument is one that provides ease of playing and realizes each musician’s tonal ideal. The luminous varnish enhances every instrument, accentuating the

striking beauty of each piece of wood. Mr. Rabut continues his dedication to creating fine instruments in his Manhattan studio for top musicians from North America and around the world.
