Bow Maker

Eben Bodach-Turner aims to create bows that are both beautiful and exciting to play. All of his bows are entirely handmade in his East Montpelier, Vermont shop.

He made his first bow in 2000 with Lynn Armour Hannings. He is inspired by the beauty of the materials and the depth of the tradition. Like many makers today, he looks to the master bow makers of the 18th and 19th century, particularly French, for context in his work.

In 2013, he began attending the Violin Society of America Bow Making Workshop at Oberlin College. Through this unique experience, he has been very fortunate to learn from some of the finest bow makers in the world. He owes a great deal to their generosity. In 2022 he was honored to be named as the new Director of the Oberlin Bow Making Workshop.

In 2021, he became an elected member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers.

In addition to making, he also offers professional bow rehair, repair and maintenance.

Eben Bodach-Turner lives and works in Vermont, where he grew up. The hills and forests surrounding his home and shop offer continuous reminders that beautiful lines are rooted in nature. In addition, the creative people that are drawn to Vermont enrich his work and life.
