Julia Maria Pasch

Luthier Julia Maria Pasch is a Vienna-based violin maker whose work interweaves acoustic research, visual poetics, and contemporary sound design.  Trained at the renowned Mittenwald School and shaped by collaborations with physicist Heinrich Dünnwald and luthier Stefan-Peter Greiner, Pasch approaches the violin not as a historical reproduction but as a contemporary sound sculpture tuned to the needs of today’s performers. Her instruments balance powerful projection with a rich spectrum of tonal colors, enabling performers to move effortlessly between intimate chamber music and grand concert halls. Through close dialogue with leading soloists and ensembles, Pasch continually refines the relationship between material, resonance, and the performer’s impact, creating instruments that respond with both strength and nuance and allow for a wider range of bow pressure and contact points without losing tonal complexity.  From her atelier in Richard Wagner’s former composition house in Vienna, Julia Maria Pasch engages with an international community of musicians such as Atos Trio, Belcea Quartet, Cuarteto Quiroga, Dalibor Karvay and Christian Lie, to name a few. – To be allowed to continue where the old masters ceased, is both: an obligation and a privilege. –
