Nicholas Allen

Nicholas Allen began making violins in 2015 in the basement of his home in Pittsburgh, Pa. Since then, Nick has taken his lutherie above ground and worked with renowned luthiers and shops, gaining extensive experience in fine instrument making, restoration and setup.

After studying independently for several years, Nick began work under the watchful and skilled eye of Philip Injeian in 2018. Injean became his first mentor in the art of fine violin making and restoration, with a particular emphasis on old Italian and French instruments. In 2020, Nick took a position as a restorer at Potter Violins in Washington D.C. doing setup, restoration and new making alongside shop manager and luthier Christopher Jacoby. While at Potter’s, he developed an affinity for tonal adjustment and working with musicians to help them attain their ideal sound.

Nick currently works as a luthier at Reed-Yeboah Fine Violins in New York City, doing restoration and new making. He has a passion for making new violins that best serve the needs of players and help them achieve their individual musical goals. He puts particular focus on antiquing his new violins to achieve the warm glow and sound characteristics of some of the great violins from history.
